The date was May 21st 2011.  Yes, this was the date of the highly “anticipated’ Rapture, predicted by Harold Camping.

If the rapture was to happen that night, we had to make sure we had a great meal before everyone vanished.

We decided on Not Your Average Joe’s, as it is one of our favorite restaurants that serves some healthy and great tasting meals. On this night we both ordered the turkey burger.  It was fantastic!  So joking with the waitress Matt said “Wow, that was excellent.  I wish I knew what you put in them.” She goes away and comes back with the complete list of ingredients.  Matt was so excited  that the next day he made a batch.

The recipe below, will make about 5-6 burgers (depending how big you like your burgers).  I find these burgers to have unique flavor and you don’t even need condiments for it to taste fantastic.  These are simple to make and easy to cook. Let us  know now how you like them!

1 pkg. 1.3 lb. 93% Lean Ground Turkey (we used turkey with a little more fat – as opposed to the 97% – so they stick together better)

½ cup of plain bread crumbs

 1 Tbsp. Oregano

 1 Tbsp. Cinnamon

 1 Tbsp. Nutmeg

2 tsp. Coarse ground black pepper

 1 tsp. Salt

 1 egg white

 1 Tbsp. Worcestershire sauce

 1 Tbsp. Olive oil

 4 large garlic cloves crushed

 3-4 oz. crumbled feta cheese

½ to 3/4 cup of chopped spinach

Mix all ingredients together well and make into patty’s. (We told you this was an easy recipe)

Makes 6 large patty’s or 8-10 small ones.

Grill the burgers until cooked thru. Serve with a side salad or grill your own veggies. We par-steam the carrots and place them on the grill until slightly charred. We also cook summer squash this way it comes out fantastic!

We plan to hit Not Your Average Joe’s on Oct 21st 2011….. God willing :o)

Maybe we’ll see you there,

for a beer,

before we vanish into thin air.

Cheers,

Donna and Matt
